The British Truck Racing Championship continues the thrilling 2024 season with the thunderous race trucks returning to Thruxton Circuit on the 6-7 August for a spectacular weekend’s worth of high-speed action.
Thruxton Circuit, like many other British racing venues, has a unique history rooted in the post-war era where the UK utilised surplus RAF airbases from World War II, creating a legendary motor racing track, which quickly became one of the fastest circuits in the country. Its origins as an airbase have imbued it with a distinct character and layout that has largely remained unchanged since the 1960s.
The circuit's design is renowned for its fast-sweeping curves and the intense, flat-out nature of its laps. Measuring 2.356 miles (3.792km) in length, Thruxton is not just the longest racetrack in the UK but also one of the most thrilling. The layout ensures that races are rarely dull, with drivers and vehicles constantly pushed to their limits. However, this high-speed excitement comes with its own set of challenges, particularly regarding tyre wear, which is a constant concern (and expense!) for racers.
“Thruxton Circuit’s high-speed design means we will be able to really push the limits of both driver and truck, and I look forward to the challenge,” says Tom, highlighting the adrenaline-pumping nature of the track.
This will be the first time the Navistar races at Thruxton, adding an extra layer of anticipation and excitement for both the team and spectators. The team behind the truck are optimistic about the truck with early weather reports promising warm weather and a dry truck, making for ideal conditions for some seriously speedy laps.
